ch-ch-changes

Victoria n' Bird has been quiet on the internet front for a couple of months, but super busy behind the scenes.
When you are working day in, day out there is little time to sit back and review everything as a whole, but I managed to take a small breather earlier this year and realised it was now or never to take things to a new level. Don't get me wrong, I love VnB to bits, but I think as I have grown (got older), my tastes have changed and my business and sewing confidence has grown, VnB isn't quite representing what I creatively want to put out into the world anymore.
It all sounds a bit wishy washy, but to sum up... things are a-changin'!

To make a clean new start I am re-branding, the new name is still hush hush at the moment while I get things organised. I don't want to give too much away, but I am pretty excited.

There is still a bit to do, but it will be worth the wait!

Paris versus New York

This time last year I was in NYC with sore feet, a puku full of fantastic food and a big smile on my face, and on my way to have my first Paris adventure a few weeks later. To commemorate I thought I would show off some images from this great book I found at the library recently -  Paris versus New York - a tally of two cities.

I will be nabbing my own copy from The Book Depository. There is also a box full of Paris vs NY postcards available to purchase, which would be perfect for mini artwork, or if you want something a little larger you can buy prints here.

Of a Kind

If you haven't yet checked out Of a Kind, I suggest you do. They have some great fashion pieces for you to purchase, but the thing that makes them unique and a wee bit smart is that they are all extremely limited edition pieces by some amazing on-the-rise designers. Numbers of items range from 5-50 pieces an edition and come with a certificate of authenticity which is signed and numbered by the designer.
That is like fashion art!

The great concept would be nothing if the pieces weren't amazing, good lookin' pieces you actually wanted to buy, luckily they are!

You also get to know a little bit about the designers back-story before you buy, so you are totally on the road to being fabulously obnoxious when people comment on your purchase, telling them of it's rarity and designer facts.

This weeks release is a 50 of a kind Lauren Moffatt Truckin' Tank. A swoon-worthy versatile piece.

Creative Lives

I love to get a peep into creative, or just plain stylish and interesting peoples lives - where they live, where they work, what they wear, about the cities they live in and hear about what makes them tick.
Luckily I am not alone and there are websites popping up all the time; one stop shops to feed my curiosity. I thought I would share my current favourites.

Industry Of One focuses on exploring "the style trappings of various industries + professions and document the relationship between one's line of work + walk of life"
Visually, it's a treat.

The Makers - a photo project by Jennifer Causey, documents an array of creative and industrious folk, typically from around Brooklyn, NY.
Full of inspiring photographs and short interviews with each of 'The Makers'.

ClosetVisit - pictures of clothing, chats about clothing and a wee bit of clothing envy.

An extensive list of interviews from creatives around the world can be found on Freunde Von Freunden. Some are not in English, but hey, a useful way to use google translate, when not using it to learn exotic phrases to impress your friends.

There are interesting interviews and photo shoots with makers to be found on blogs around the internet - a couple of goodies here and here.
Grain & Gram - The New Gentlemens journal has interesting conversations and q+a's with some creative male folk.
The Selby of course is a popular spot for checking out interesting people in their interesting surroundings and The Great Discontent is also another I have found recently.

Let me know if there are any that I should check out that I have missed.

Happy perusing.
